Bilge pump STBD under seat

Is anyone aware of the parameters of the Bilge pump located STBD side below passenger seat? Does it require constant power or when it reaches 2 inches then the float switch activates to then start pumping? anyone help appreciated.

The pump that’s in mine requires constant power and hence will drain the battery over time, the way those pumps work is they turn on for a split second and measure the resistance, if there is no water it turns off immediately, you can hear it pulse on from time to time. More reliable than some of the other paddle less pumps and I think an actual float switch would be a bad idea as anything stored there could interfere with it.

it’s hardwired to the battery (bypasses the on/off switches) but does go through the “cabin pump breaker” located on the main panel with the big on/off knobs.

I can’t remember what was there originally, but I have just a little Attwood pump in there now that has an internal float/sensor.

I don’t think the float-switch style should have a parasitic draw as the float completes the circuit.
